The Designer II is responsible for working closely with an engineer and preparing complex, detailed 3D CAD models and 2D fabrication drawings for the manufacture of surface production equipment such as pipe racks, horizontal separators, heater treaters, filters, sand traps, combustors, and equipment skids.

The following is intended as a general illustration of the workload but is not all-inclusive for this position.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Create 3D solid models of equipment using pipe, rolled plate, nozzles, formed heads, wide flange beams, flat bars, round stock, etc.
  • Generate 2D fabrication drawings from 3D solid models.
  • Ensure dimensional accuracy of fabricated items.
  • Provide support to shop personnel when needed and resolve assembly/fabrication issues.
  • Develop and upload bills of material.
  • Ensure commodity items purchased for inclusion in standalone or skidded equipment are properly represented and dimensionally accurate for assembly
  • Update drawings as appropriate during engineering and fabrication/assembly process as required.
  • Update existing drawings to reflect necessary changes or standardized drawing format.
  • Coordinate with and consult other upstream and downstream stakeholders to design, layout, or detail components to avoid supply chain, design, and fabrication issues.
  • Review and analyze proposals, specifications, sketches, and “go-bys” to assess factors affecting component designs.
  • Lay out, draw, and reproduce illustrations for reference manuals and technical publications that describe operational maintenance on various components and/or machinery.
  • Utilize COMPRESS for vessel code calculations and extract data for vessel designs.
  • Perform cost analysis with an effort to reduce material and labor costs in the fabrication of equipment.
  • Model OEM components when OEM 3D models are not available.
  • Managed CAD part number and specification databases.
  • Interpret structural analysis reports and implement them appropriately in design.
  • Utilize parametric design to minimize design modifications.
  • Interface with manufacturing personnel to improve shop efficiency through smart design principles.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • 3-5 yrs AutoCAD 3D experience required.
  • Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school related to the field of Engineering.
  • Four to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with oil and gas surface production equipment preferred.

Language/Math/Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical/science procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical/scientific instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to operate in a rapidly changing design environment with tight deadlines.

Computer Skills

  • Experience with MS Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required
  • Experience with 3D CAD software as defined above
  • Experience with DropBox preferred

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear/listen for at least eight (8) hours per day. Also, must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl occasionally.
  • Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors) and depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships), and ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust eyes to bring an object into sharp focus).
  • Light physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of a production/technical nature.
  • Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers.
